By now, most motorsports enthusiast know the legendary story of ford vs ferrari, and how the ford gt40 was the shining star of the story. The superformance ford gt40 is a continuation of the original story. Superformance, based in south africa, has been manufacturing a low volume line of gt40s. The gt40 is so realistic and faithful to the original design, that it's currently being evaluated for historic racing eligibility. These superformance continuation collectable versions of the legendary 1965-68 le mans gt40 (mki and mkii) are licensed by safir gt40 spares to carry the continuation serial numbers gt40 p 2xxx. In keeping things authentic, superformance built each new gt40 as close to original specs as possible, both dimensionally and in terms of construction. In fact, two-thirds of the suspension pieces will bolt right to the original chassis. A rigid steel monocoque chassis is covered in an all-steel center body section. In the interests of drivability, durability, safety, and weight savings, several other improvements or upgrades were made to the original design. Most notable differences are; the optional left hand driving position (originally rhd), center mounted shifter, the addition of air conditioning, and modern brakes. Superformance gt40s are sold without a power train, a strategy that circumvents emissions and crash regulations, which the gt40 does not meet. A variety of big or small block engines can be used in the gt40. This ford gt40 mki, serial number gt40 p2164, was ordered in monza red and white willment stripes, with black alcantara interior. Power train: engine is a efi, aluminum block, 351w bored out to 427 small block specs. Motor was built by t & l, a professional nascar engine builder. Documented spec of the build are available. The motor was dynod around 600hp. The transmission is a strong zf-synchroma 5 speed transaxle. Amazing performance! An added plus for this car is it has proven reliable performer, and with roughly 13,000 miles traveled. All the fine tuning has been addressed. Several added r & d improvements, safety features, as well as reliability features are on the gt40. Original paint from new. Overall the paint and body is in excellent condition. Interior: the black alcantara finished is soft, clean and with very little wear. People over 6 5 might find the cabin space to be tight. The working a/c is a great feature for weekend driving. Back up camera was added for easier parking. Extras: an spare new set of halibrand wheels with goodyear tires. Driving: one word sums up the driving experience awesome! Surprisingly comfortable and easy to drive, and at the same time, extremely powerful. Please note, the gt40 was designed to be a world class endurance championship race car. The superformance gt40 follows the tradition, so in many ways this is a car that can be enjoyed on the track or street. A little over 100 original ford gt40s were built in the 1960s, and each surviving example has become a extremely valuable to collectors of historical cars.
